Is an electric bus affordable to run?
According to the National Transport Commission, the cost of purchasing a ZEB can be up to double the diesel equivalent. For example, Victoria’s Zero Emission Bus Trial – running since 2022 – found that energy consumption from an electric bus is up to two-thirds lower than a diesel bus. Maintenance is also simpler and more cost-effective with fewer mechanical parts in batteries compared to an engine.
